Change kitchen cloths regularly

Change kitchen cloths at least twice a week, or sterilise them daily by soaking in a bleach solution.

Keep separate cloths for washing dishes and wiping up spills on surfaces to avoid cross contamination.

Make sure your chopping board is clean

To keep chopping boards stain-free and hygienic, always scrub them in hot, soapy water. Rinse under hot running water or, better still, pour boiling water over them to sterilise, and dry thoroughly.

GHI TIP: Keep separate chopping boards for different types of food.

Keep your food processor stain-free

If carrot or curry stains on the food processor bowl don't come out with normal washing, try wiping the bowl with kitchen paper moistened with vegetable oil, then washing in hot soapy water. This will often remove the marks and keep your kitchen looking clean.

Make your microwave fresh

Remove smells from a microwave oven by placing lemon slices in a bowl of water inside the oven and heating on high power until boiling, then heat for twenty minutes on medium power so steam passes through the vents. This will get rid of the any old microwave smells.
